A completely new Bollinger Rose Magnum. The creation of this non-vintage rosé has been long in the making and a dream of the House for over six years.

This wine has evolved not as a curiosity, but as with all of the Bollinger cuvées, as a careful assembly of the very finest ingredients by their talented, passionate team.

In the meticulous House style, Bollinger Rosé is modelled on the Special Cuvée blend, combining the fruits of previous harvests plus the addition of reserve wines from their cellars in Ay.

The final component, which provides colour and delicate aromas of ripe red fruits, is a proportion of still red wine coming exclusively from Bollinger’s Grand Cru Vineyards in the Cote d’Ay and Verzenay.

Grape Variety: 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier

Background: It is well known that Madame Lily Bollinger expressed reservations about fashionable styles of Rosé Champagne during her reign, but as testament to her interest in the wine, Bollinger introduced La Grande Année Rosé at the end of the 1970s in which she took great pride.

This non-vintage interpretation is true to its distinctive house style and heritage, which gives reason to believe it would have been granted her approval.

Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne Brut Cuvee Speciale Notes
The cuvées of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte are blended from wines grown in more than 500 hectares of exclusively Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards located throughout Champagne.

Each vineyard and each varietal Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier is vinified separately to allow absolute precision in the final blends of each Champagne. There is a minimum aging of 3 years. Respecting grape varieties, the Cuvée Spéciale Brut Vintage 1999 emphasises the delicacy of the Chardonnay which accounts for 60% of the blend. The right proportion of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier give it balance and homogeneity.

Pale gold color, generous effervescence. The first notes of citrus fruit (lemon and grapefruit) mixed with floral aromas of may blossom and physalis make the first nose tonic and fresh. Then, in turn, honey, gingerbread and Virginia tobacco reveal aromas which are more suave and gourmand. Vivaciousness and delicacy characterise the citrus fruit bouquet which develops harmoniously to give good balance on the palate.

Bollinger R.D. 1997 Champagne
The 1997 R.D. opens with explosive aromatics that meld seamlessly into layers of ripe fruit. The signature slightly oxidative notes are there, but there is also more than enough fruit to provide terrific balance. This is an especially accessible, opulent R.D. that can be drunk young or cellared. The R.D. starts off as the same wine as the Grande Annee but sees an extended period of aging on its lees prior to being disgorged. In 1997 the R.D. is 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. This bottle was disgorged on March 25, 2008. The 1997 is a great introduction to the R.D style, and a bottle that can be enjoyed while the 1995 and 1996 age.

Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé is a derivation from the blend of La Grande Année and is only produced when exceptional quality vintages occur. The grapes come exclusively from Grands and Premiers Crus.

Wines from 16 villages have been included, 77% from Grand Crus and 23% from Premier Crus. Bollinger use only the ‘cuvée’ juice in the making of La Grande Année Rosé.

The first fermentation is always carried out 100% in old oak barrels, which has become quite unique in Champagne. The Cru’s are fermented in small oak barrels which enables a rigorous selection. Bollinger uses only old barrels (5 years and more) in order to generate neither an oaky taste nor tannins. This method reinforces the aromatic complexity and the ageing potential of the wines.

At this stage the red wine from ‘La Côte Aux Enfants’ is blended with the Grande Année base wine in a proportion of 7 to 8%, which gives birth to La Grande Année Rosé.

Once the wine is bottled the second fermentation and cellar ageing are conducted under natural cork. This method, nowadays very seldom used in Champagne, is a guarantee of freshness. It allows the aromas to preserve all their bouquet.

La Grande Année Rosé then ages in the cellars for at least 5 years. After Manual riddling and disgorging, La Grande Année Rosé rests for a minimum of 3 months prior to shipment.
